Further Information

I completed the City and Guilds Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector qualification in 2009. The course covered the following:

  • Establishing ground rules with learners.
  • Embedding functional skills into the learning process.
  • Different teaching and learning styles.
  • The tasks and responsibilities of a teacher.
  • Legislative requirements and codes of practice.
  • Equality and inclusion.
  • Assessment methods.

I had to put the skills I learned into practice, and evaluate different teaching and learning approaches. I was required to prepare detailed lesson plans, questionnaires and handouts, written outlines of the aims and objectives of teaching sessions, and schemes of work. Many aspects of this course remain relevant to the current services I provide as a tutor.

In 2009 I became self-employed as a proofreader and copy editor, specialising in providing academic proofreading services to undergraduate and postgraduate students. However, if you are looking for a proofreading service rather than a tutorial service, please visit my website at www.execproof.co.uk. Please note that for ethical reasons I do not offer tuition services to students I work with in a proofreading capacity.
